A big thank you to the PA for organising a visit from the ice cream man today. We all loved the delicious treat 🙂

World Food and Fun Day 🙂
Thank you so much for supporting our World Food and Fun Day. 6th Class did a super job at organising and planning such an incredible event. It was great to have our school community celebrating together again. We also raised over a thousand euro for our ‘CNS Hub’.

Thank you so much to everyone who came and donated to our PA coffee morning on the 27th of May. We made an incredible €912 which will go to creating the ‘CNS Hub’.

Trip to Trinity College
6th Class had a fantastic day in Trinity College. They were very fortunate to attend an event in Trinity with Ukrainians who have recently arrived in Ireland. This was organised by one of wonderful parents, Na. We got to participate in science experiments, visit the Book of Kells and the library that a part of Harry Potter was filmed in. We then got delicious pizzas before getting the bus back to school 😃
Sports Day 2022
One of our new parents in 2nd class, Irena Gladun (photographer) created this fantastic video. It was a wonderful day full of fun and laughter 🙂
Newbridge House and Farm
Junior infants, Senior infants and 1st Class had a great day at Newbridge House and Farm 🙂
Our wildflowers are looking beautiful in our playground. We are hoping that they will help Save the bees 🐝
I would like to congratulate pupils from 2nd, 3rd and 5th class on participating in the TU Dublin Go Games Gaelic Football Blitz which took place in Broombridge on Wednesday the 1st of June. All of the children were spectacular on the day and were a credit to the school. We managed to win many matches and all of the children left the field of play with a smile on their faces. Thank you to all the parents who brought children to and from the Blitz! It made the event possible for many children to attend.
4th class were so lucky to be asked by RTE to Bloom to do some filming on Monday 30th May. We had an amazing experience and the weather was nice. We got to meet Marty and we did a little quiz about potatoes with him. It will be aired on Thursday on RTE 1 at 8:30pm. A big thank you to Laura, Viv, Kathy, Ciara, Jen and Hilary for giving us lifts there and back. Looking forward to seeing what we look like on television.!
4th and 5th class had an amazing day at Clara Lara😃
We had the wonderful Dave entertaining us with his saxophone during break today. The children loved dancing and singing along.
6th class had an incredible day at Surfdock 🙂
Senior Infants got two little classroom pets.
Jack Chambers, the Minister for Gaeltacht Affairs and Sport came to visit 6th class, in CNS today. He gave us an insight into the roles and responsibilities of a minister. He also got to meet some of the CNS staff 😊
Some of our pupils met Tánaiste Leo Varadkar at St Brigid’s Church last Friday evening.
6th Class wrote a story with the Fighting Words programme. The story they created was based in our locality. On Thursday, 6th Class were each presented with a hardcopy of their story. This will be available to download on the Fighting Words website shortly. The children really enjoyed the process of becoming authors and getting to work with very talented illustrators.

Easter Raffle Winners

CNS Football Tournament
Team C were the winners of the 4th, 5th and 6th class football tournament 🏅 Well done to everyone who took part. It was great fun!
Living Faith, Living History
Pupils from 5th & 6th class who participated in last year’s Living Faith, Living History project with Ms Furney last year pictured in Christ Church Cathedral at the launch of the book.

Next week we will have our Easter 🐣 Raffle! Teachers will have the tickets next week and the lucky winners will be drawn at assembly on Friday. You can get one strip for €1 or six strips for €5. Our wonderful PA have organised the raffle and the amazing prizes. Three lucky winners will win the hampers below 🙂
National Tree Week
This week is National Tree Week and we got busy planting in CNS.
The Castleknock Tidy Towns Committee are working hard to make Castleknock an even better place to live and grow.
They brought us some native Irish ‘bare-root’ trees to plant. We were all delighted!
Some were planted in our school so that we can all watch and see them grow. Lucky pupils from 3rd Class and Senior Infants brought trees home.

Buddies are Back!
6th class were so excited to meet their ‘Buddies’ in Junior Infants today. They spent time getting to know each other, playing games and listening to 6th class read Irish story to them. They can’t wait to see each other again 🙂

Ag Déanamh Pancóga
Lá an bPancóg
Bhí an-spraoi againn i rith Lá na bPancóga agus d’itheamar go léir pancóga blasta agus milis. A big thank to our wonderful PA for making us all delicious pancakes today. The children in CNS had a great time making pancakes, writing recipes in English and as Gaeilge, creating pancakes with their favourite toppings, listening to stories about pancakes and most importantly tasting how delicious pancakes are 🙂
Well done to 3rd Class who raised €115.10 for Special Olympics Ireland following their ‘Friendship February’ Assembly.
Castleknock Prints by 6th Class
6th class have started a business called ‘Castleknock Print’. They are selling customised bottles and key rings. They have sent home order forms. 6th class would be very grateful if you would consider buying one of their products. The order form and money can be returned to their class teacher and they will collect the orders and make them. They will be launching all their products this Friday the 11th. You can pre-order your goods and they will have them for you on Friday. We thank you in advance for all your support.
6th class and Mrs. McMurdock
We have been selected to take part in the PPLI Language Sampler for primary schools. We will be running Spanish Lessons for all pupils from 3rd-6th Class after midterm break. We are very pleased to have a Spanish teacher join us every Tuesday for 6 weeks.
We expect that everyone will really enjoy the experience and will learn some useful words and phrases along with some interesting facts about Spain.
An Bosca Leabharlainne
We were delighted to be selected to receive An Bosca Leabharlainne – a set of original Irish Language books chosen by Laureate na nÓg, Áine Ní Ghlinn.

Santa came to Castleknock
Santa made a quick trip to Castleknock this morning to drop some treats and wish everyone a very Happy Christmas 🎄

C.N.S. had a Farm
A big thank you to all who contributed to our appeal for Care packages for the homeless this Christmas. As you can see we had a great uptake!
Thanks also to our artist – Elaine Watters who organised a raffle for one of her wonderful paintings as a fundraiser to supplement this appeal.
A big Thank You to our wonderful PA who organised a visit from Wooly Farm today.
The weather was good and we were all delighted to get out into our yard which had been changed into a farm for the day!
We met pigs, sheep, ducks, chickens, goats, rabbits and Guinea pigs – a dog wearing his Christmas bandana and even a Llama!
It was wonderful and we all had such fun!
Christmas Jumper Day

New Christmas Trees
A big ‘Thank you’ to our wonderful PA who purchased beautiful new Christmas Trees for our school entrance halls.
They are putting us all in festive mood…
It is Advent, our crib is out and we are preparing for Christmas…#
Today we were so delighted to welcome the ‘PLAYground Orchestra’ to CNS. This was organised through An Draíocht in conjunction with The Mobile Music School and with funding from Fingal Arts Council.
The 29 piece orchestra set up in the playground and all the children went out to dance and enjoy the festive music and join in with the wonderful singing. We learned about the different types of instruments that make up an Orchestra and met the conductor too.
It was a bright sunny morning and the music was just what we all needed to give us all a lift. You can see from the wonderful video and pictures that we all had a wonderful time…
We are delighted to announce that the orchestra will play in our playground on Thursday, 2nd December.
This event is presented by An Draíocht with funding from Fingal County Council.
A 29 piece orchestra will play a range of Christmas favourites and classical pieces in the playground for all to enjoy! 🎶

Look After our Environment!
Senior Infants based their assembly on the theme of caring for the environment. They gave all the other classes some great ideas, for ways in which they can help our environment.
Well done to 5th and 6th class who just completed a full marathon. They have been out running four days a week over an eight week period. They ran 26.2 miles in total. They were all presented with a medal from Marthonkids today for completing the marathon. What a super achievement!
6th Class Fundraiser
Thank you so much to everyone who bought a ‘Goodie Bag’ off 6th class. They managed to raise an amazing €260. This money will be put into starting their new business. They are currently working on business ideas to bring before the Dragons. We will keep you all updated 🙂
Team Hope’s Christmas Shoebox Appeal
This year, once again we had a fantastic response to Team Hope’s Christmas Shoebox Appeal. We collected 78 beautifully decorated Christmas boxes for distribution to children across Eastern Europe and Africa.
A big thank you to everyone who participated and to Joyce Grainger who sent us a video explaining all about the work Hope do – we ‘hope’ that the children who receive our boxes will be happy this Christmas.

‘Living Faith Living History’
Pupils from Ms.Furney’s previous 4th and 5th class were very fortunate to visit Christchurch Cathedral on Thursday last. Ms Furney’s class worked extremely hard on their ‘Living Faith Living History’ project last year. This project explored Castleknock National School and Saint Brigid’s Church, both now and in the past. I think you’ll all agree the project looks fantastic! Well done to all involved. The project will be on display in Christchurch Cathedral until next Thursday, 11th November if anyone would like to see it!😊

GOAL Jersey Day

Tree Day (7/10/21)
3rd class were involved in Tree Day on the 7th October. They had a visit from the Tree Council of Ireland with Éanna Ní Lamhna and representatives from RTE News2day. Pippa Hackett, who is the Minister for Land Use and Biodiversity, also attended and planted a tree. The event was filmed and featured in News2Day TV programme where 3rd class proved to be very knowledgeable.
Goodbye and Thank You!
We said goodbye to Canon Paul at assembly on Friday 24th September. We send him off with all our best wishes for a long and happy retirement after 40 years of ministry. He has been with us in CNS for 12 years and the children shared their memories and wrote special prayers for his final assembly. We gave him the gift of an aerial photograph taken to celebrate 300 years of Castleknock National School and a special booklet of good wishes made by all our pupils.
We wish Canon Paul all the very best in his new ‘adventures’! He will be greatly missed – he has made a lasting impression on the pupils in CNS.

Olympic Games Tokyo 2020
We are so incredibly proud of our past pupil Natalya Cole, who is competing in the Olympics for the third time. We wish her all the best as she represents Ireland in the pentathlon. We can’t wait to see her and we will be all cheering for her. Natalya won the ‘Girls Junior Sports Cup’ when she was a pupil in Castleknock and she is now representing her country in the Olympics 🙂
Goodbye and Happy Holidays!
It is so hard to believe that it is the end of another school year. It is always a bittersweet time of year because we have to say goodbye to our wonderful 6th class but we know wonderful adventures and new beginnings await them all. We are so proud, of each and every one of you and as the quote says ‘It’s not a goodbye, it’s see you soon’. We want to wish you all the very best in the future, ‘Go n-éirí libh go léir sa todhcaí’, and don’t ever be a stranger, because you will always be a very special part of our CNS community. We hope that everyone has a wonderful Summer and we hope to see everyone else back in school at the end of August ready for another year full of fun!

We had a lovely evening, celebrating the great achievements and accomplishments 6th class have achieved over the last eight years. They are a class that were full of fun, enthusiasm and kindness. We wish them all the best as they move on into the next chapter in their lives. The world is your oyster ‘Tá an domhan i gcroí do bhoise agat’
Please note that the return to school date is Thursday 26th August.
We close for Summer holidays on Friday 25th June at 11.30am. We would ask that all parents of pupils from 1st-6th Class collect their children via the front gate. Parents of Junior and Senior infants may walk through St Brigids as usual, respecting the fact that they have a ‘usual school day’.

Ice Cream Fun Day!
We want to say a massive thank you to our wonderful PA for organising the ice cream van to come and visit CNS yesterday.
