Over the past eight weeks, the pupils of CNS from 3rd class to 6th class have been participating in the Say Yes to Languages programme which involved having French classes twice a week. The children really enjoyed the experience and were very enthusiastic. The pupils were provided with a Language Passport which helps in the development of language and cultural awareness. The pupils were given an opportunity to gain ownership of their own language learning experience by discussing what helps each of them as a learner and by establishing links between various languages. The majority of children would not have learned French previously so they were all learning together through music, games and role play. The children particularly enjoyed using the puppets Minnie et Pierre helping to break down any initial barriers to participation. Topics such as greetings, myself, numbers, colours, sport, food and restaurant were explored. I was delighted when pupils would often greet me on the corridor using French or indeed on another occasion in a local shop! I really enjoyed my experience of teaching French to the pupils of CNS and hope the children continue to flourish in their learning of languages.
Au revoir,
Bonnes vacances!
